Central Chapter: Newsletter May 2018

Hello to Everybody

The Mini Wing Fling has come and gone and what a memorable trip it was. Thank you to Chris for all the organising from this end, even though you could not join us. Please have a look at the Facebook photos and website write-ups, if you have not yet seen them.

With our April run, we tried something new, as per request from some members. We did the run on a Saturday, instead of the traditional Sunday. Although it was well attended, the general feeling is that we must stick to the Sunday runs. The 2019 Central Committee will keep that in mind when doing the planning for next year.

Having said that, the next Saturday run is planned for September to the Loskop Dam in the form of a picnic. We are going to stick to this date, but also make provision for people who wish to stay over on Saturday night at the dam. That means, there can be a run on the Sunday to the dam as well, for those who cannot make it on the Saturday, and then meet up with the rest.

Future events to diarise:

On Sunday, 3 June, the East Rand Motor Club is hosting their annual show. See www.eastrandmotorshow.co.za. It is not an official event, but it sounds as if a number of people would like to attend. Nic is the man with all the information. Nic, please share.

The Nappy Run takes place this Saturday, 12 May, in Warmbaths. Dias is here the man with all the information. Dias, please share.

Our run this month is on Sunday, 20 May, to the Red Star Raceway on the N12 motorway. It will be for breakfast and the run arrangements will be posted soon. We will need to be there just before 9:30 and included will be an interesting 30-minute talk by a TT racer. Details will be firmed up this week.

Run Sunday, 24 June – most probably a venue on the Vaal.

Run Sunday, 22 July – Dias we need help to identify a place somewhere north.
Also remember the 1000 Bike Show in Germiston on 1 July.

August – three events:
Saturday, 11 August: A fundraising activity at Honda Menlyn as well as a show and shine (concourse) activity to test the new scoring system for the Wing Fling concourse.
– Weekend of the 25 and 26 August, our mystery run to somewhere … Barbara keeps all plans completely under wraps.
– Also remember Cars in the Park on 5 August.

September run Saturday, 15 September or optional Sunday, 16 September: run to Loskop dam with possible stayover – picnic style. Details to follow later.

October, 14 to 19: The annual Wing Fling has now been officially moved to Caledon in the Western Cape and details will be posted soon.

November: We have been invited to participate in a prestigious road cycling event to act as marshals along the route with our Gold Wings. (Please see the PDF invitation attached.) Bikes to ride with the different groups and trikes at intersections. This will be a great platform to showcase our bikes. The unfortunate part is that it clashes with our AGM. We did a poll on some members and it appears not to be a big deal if we move the AGM out by one week.

Therefore: Sunday, 11 November – marshalling at the cycling event.
Central AGM moved now to 17 and 18 November in Rustenburg.

That leaves us with a very packed and exiting programme for the rest of the year.

Now – you all have homework to do:

Central Committee wants to finalise a proposed venue for the 2019 Wing Fling BEFORE the end of this year: That means, we want proposals from as many people as possible for a proposed location. With that, we can have a very inclusive majority rule location. Please send proposals to us on Central Official within the next two weeks.

Regards
Jaap
